I would welcome the opportunity to visit with you through a new video about the Renew Network and the Call for Reform of the Womens Division.
Requests frequently come to the Renew office for me to personally come and speak and answer questions relating to the Call for Reform campaign. As often as possible, I respond with a yes to these invitations, for there is nothing I enjoy more than being with the women and men of the United Methodist Church in person.
However, it is not possible for me to accept every invitation, and some groups cannot afford to cover the basic expense for such a visit. In addition, we surmised that some groups might feel more comfortable with a non-personal visit so they could hear and discuss the information about the Call for Reform in a private setting. Hence the video.
This video is quite close to a personal visit, for I share my heart and some personal information with the viewers. The video lasts approximately 35 minutes, and is in three segments.
Segment I offers foundational principles which provide parameters for a call for reform and discusses reservations individuals may have about expressing concern regarding the leadership provided by the Womens Division to United Methodist Women.
In Segment II, I introduce myself and share a condensed personal history of my involvement with United Methodist Women and Good News. I do this so viewers will hopefully feel they can trust the presenter. Segment II also recounts the early formation of the Renew Network.
Segment III covers the two-fold ministry of Renewrenewal and accountability. This segment covers the structure of Renew, shares about our support services and our supplemental program resources. Viewers will hear about Renews review of UMW program resources, our attendance at Womens Division board meetings and some of our documented concerns regarding the programs, policies, and spending patterns of the Division.
The video concludes with some suggested steps for you to take if you decide to be a part of the Call for Reform.
You may view the video in its entirety or break it up into its three segments. We will provide some discussion questions for use with the video. At the end of the video you are encouraged to gather your questions and either call, e-mail, or mail them to me. I would be pleased to make a prior appointment with you to answer your groups questions by speaker phone at the time of your video viewing.
This video is an excellent resource for introducing other UMW groups within your area to the Call for Reform of the Womens Division. A combination fellowship, worship, and information event could be planned for a Saturday or weeknight. Use this video to educate your entire church to the need for reform of the Womens Division. Renew can send handouts for your gathering, and you may copy any of the Call for Reform material for sharing with others.
May I visit with you by video? I believe God can use our time together to provide clarity and direction for your participation in the Call for Reform.
