"AFTE was founded in 1977 by Edmund Robb and the late Albert C. Outler, with the sole purpose of strengthening the classical Christian witness within the United Methodist Church through theological education.
AFTE's primary focus is through the John Wesley Fellowship program which provides much needed financial and spiritual resources for intellectually talented UM students who are pursuing doctoral studies. Their goal is to see these young scholars find positions in our UM seminaries. Since 1977 more than 75 men and women have received nearly $2,000,000 in grants from AFTE. AFTE is also responsible for the publication of Catalyst, a scholarly, quarterly newsletter that is mailed to some 5,000 UM theological students in more than 100 seminaries.
AFTE is dedicated to the future of evangelical Wesleyan scholarship within our United Methodist Church."
